Men in the UK will be able to buy Viagra over the counter after consulting with a pharmacist and without a prescription for the first time today.

ViagraConnect manufacturer, Pfizer, estimates more than a fifth of men aged over 18 in Britain suffer from erectile dysfunction, but almost half of those over 40 have not sought medical help.

Where will Viagra be on sale?

The erectile dysfunction drug will be available in 14,000 stores across Britain and via pharmacy websites.

The tablets will be available exclusively from Boots until 10 April.

Who can buy Viagra over the counter?

Those aged 18 and over will be able to buy the tablets following a conversation with a pharmacist or after filling out an online form. Men can ask to speak to a pharmacist in a private consultation room if preferred.

The pharmacists will determine whether treatment is appropriate for the patient and give advice on erectile dysfunction, usage of the medicine and potential side effects. They will advise men to consult with their doctor no less than six months after buying Viagra so that any potential underlying conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease can be investigated.

A Boots spokesperson said that the man affected by erectile dysfunction should buy the drug themselves wherever practically possible.

Who will still need a prescription?

Men with severe heart problems, those at high risk of heart problems, liver failure, kidney failure, strokes or those taking certain other medicines, will still need to be prescribed the drug under the supervision of a doctor.

How much will Viagra cost?

A four-pack of the tablets will cost £19.99 and an eight-pack £34.99.

Men who buy it will be advised that they can take a 50 mg tablet an hour before having sex, but should not use more than one pill a day.

Viagra is is already available as an NHS prescription free of charge for those eligible not to pay for their prescriptions.

Is there a limit to how many tablets can be bought?

The pharmacist will decide how many packs will be supplied in a transaction.

Why has Viagra been made available over the counter?

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced in November it was to steer men away from buying the tablets from. In 2016 £17m worth of unlicensed and counterfeit Viagra was seized.

Kristie Sourial, Pfizer’s medical manager, said: “It’s important to remember that erectile dysfunction is a medical condition, and that the impact often goes beyond the physical symptoms – it can lead to men feeling anxious, depressed and lacking in confidence.

“Our hope is that the availability of Viagra Connect in pharmacies will encourage men who do nothing about their erectile dysfunction to seek help, and encourage those who are inclined to seek help to do so sooner.”

The FDA will allow the generic drug market to continue to grow rapidly. The agency's approval of Pfizer's Viagra has been in the news this week as a potential killer for the industry. Pfizer has been in talks with generic drugmakers to create a generic version of Viagra that's not currently approved by the FDA and instead is the first such product that is available on the market without a prescription. It has been difficult for the FDA to determine whether Viagra is the best option for consumers. If the company gives Pfizer approval for the Viagra generic version of its drug, Pfizer could face a steep drop in sales of its drug.

As of Friday, the FDA had approved only Pfizer's generic Viagra. The companies will continue to market their own generic versions of the drug, as Pfizer did with its erectile dysfunction drug, Pfizer Inc.'s Viagra. But the market for the drugs in the generic form of Viagra is not in the works. Generic drugmakers, including Merck, have been forced to work with the pharmaceutical industry to meet the company's regulatory obligations to the FDA. So Merck is still required to pay Pfizer a flat fee for its Viagra. The FDA will not allow the generic drugmakers to market generic versions without a prescription in the future.

The news has all the hype and has many people asking if it is safe to use the drug. The answer is no, of course not. Generic drugs like Viagra are generally safe when taken as prescribed. They have been in short supply for a long time. Generic drugs are not always safe to use. People with heart problems or who have high blood pressure should not use the drug, and the FDA will not approve a generic version of a drug. The FDA is also not obligated to approve a drug that is safe to use. Generic drugs are not considered to have the same active ingredient, dosage form, ingredient, or route of administration as their brand-name counterparts. So generic drugs are not allowed.

The drug market is constantly evolving, as is the medical community. The drug industry is at a point in their journey where they are not ready for new and exciting products. In the meantime, the market for erectile dysfunction drugs continues to grow. The market for Viagra, for example, has been very crowded. A recent study conducted by the National Institutes of Health found that Viagra sales have grown at the fastest rate since 1998, just before the drug was approved. Viagra sales are expected to grow at least by 2023, but that is in the early to mid-2025 timeframe, at least until the patent expiration of 1998. Pfizer's Viagra sales are projected to grow by 8 percent this year.

As part of that process, Pfizer will be able to develop its own generic drugs that are equally as effective. It will be able to develop a generic version of Viagra that will not have the same side effects as the brand-name drug. Generic drugs are also being developed to address a variety of health concerns. The FDA is expected to approve a generic version of Viagra that would not contain the same amount of the active ingredient as the brand-name drug, but may be better suited for the drug's other uses. Generic drugs will not be allowed to compete with the brand-name drug's other generic drugs. This competition is expected to keep the FDA from approving generic versions of the drug that are also less effective. Generic versions of the drugs in the generic form of Viagra will be expected to be much less expensive. But the generic drugmakers will have to pay the full price for the drugs in the generic form of Viagra. If the price of the generic versions does not seem to be too high, the manufacturer may be able to develop a cheaper alternative that has a lower price point than Viagra. And the generic version of Viagra will have to be developed more thoroughly before the market can be more competitive. But the drug companies have not been able to produce a generic version of Viagra that is just as effective.
